As you may very well know, military families live a different lifestyle than most are accustomed to. Although they typically have a set home of record (for mail and vehicle registration purposes), most military families aren’t able to call a house their home.
When the orders come up, it’s time to pack up the house and move all your decorations and belongings. Because of the military lifestyle, rarely does the service member and his/her family stay in one place enough to call it “home”.
And that’s exactly why it’s important to make each house look and feel like home as much as possible! One of the best ways to do this, of course, is by decorating the house in a way that brings warmth, comfort, and joy.
It doesn’t have to be complex or pricey, either. Let’s take a look at five great yet simple tips for decorating in military housing to make it feel like you and yours are right at home.
1. Put Up Family Photos
What’s one of the best ways to make a house your home? By putting up family photos, of course! Each family photo tells a special story about you and your family, such as where you’re from, what brings you joy, and what memories you’ve made together.
So as one of the easiest ways to spruce up your military housing, why not put some family photos up on the wall or mantle? The photos will make for great conversation starters as well!
2. Get Personal With Interior Paint
When you first move into your new house, chances are that it will have all-white walls everywhere you look. Unless you prefer a minimalist look, try adding a touch of color and personalization with paint!
You don’t have to paint every wall, but adding color will help to brighten up your house so that it feels like a home. If the thought of painting an entire room scares you, try painting an accent wall instead.
3. Invest In Area Rugs
Area rugs are great and easy ways to add personality and uniqueness to any space or room. Especially if you’re moving into a house with wooden floors, area rugs will easily make the space feel warm, inviting, and more like home.
To make things even better, area rugs are as permanent or temporary as you want them to be. When it comes time to move for orders again––or if you simply want to redecorate your home––simply roll up the carpet and you’re good to go!
4. Go Crazy With Curtains
Another super easy and inexpensive way to customize your military housing is by investing in some curtains and/or valances. They come in virtually limitless styles and sizes, making it easy to customize your living space to you and your family’s liking.
They’re also super easy to pack up when it’s time to move, making them one of the best decorations to have as a military household.
5. Get Inspiration From Pinterest
Sometimes you just move so much that you run out of ideas for decorating. When this happens, have no fear: Pinterest is here! Chances are you probably already use it, but Pinterest is one of the best sources of interior design and decorating ideas.
So if you want to take a new and unique approach to decorations this time around, Pinterest may very well become your best friend.
